Search and rescue training is essential to maintain the skills of aircrew

Members of the public are informed that a CC-130H Hercules aircraft from 426 Transport Training Squadron, based at 8 Wing Trenton, will conduct search and rescue training in the vicinity of 19 Wing Comox from Tuesday 1 to June 8.

Search and rescue training requires low-level flights and repeated passages over a specific area and is essential to maintaining the skills of aircrews so that they are ready to safely perform Canadian Armed Forces missions. around the world; often in difficult conditions.

It is important that these skills are maintained in Canada so that our crew is prepared to perform these maneuvers in life-threatening situations. Every effort will be made to minimize disruption to the community.

Members of 426 Squadron will monitor all COVID-19 mitigation measures in accordance with applicable orders as well as all local public health measures. This includes wearing non-medical masks where possible, reducing contact to only essential interactions, and observing physical distancing.

Some Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) aircraft are larger than many passenger planes and may appear to fly lower than they actually are. RCAF aircrews adhere to strict rules and regulations at all times to ensure safety.
